Not sure what the background of the author is, but this essay/lecture note discusses ego or literal self-awareness of apes contrasted against human children, using quotes from books. Apparently apes don't exhibit explosive growth of vocabulary, show use of syntax etc etc, and are therefore not able to acquire language. The post later also argues their ego may be on the edge of formulating but must be weak/incomplete.
There's also magazine excerpt[3] on a page on relevant Kyoto University research center comparing an inpainting task done by a chimpanzee and a human child of 3 years old, showing that chimpanzees can only recognize and trace existing patterns, whereas kids go and complete the face with eyes, nose and mouth.
I don't get the text obsession beyond LLMs being immensely useful that you might as well use LLM for <insert tasks here>. I believe that some things live in text, some in variable size n-dimensional array, or in fixed set of parameters, and so on - I mean, our brains don't run on text alone.
Yeah, so, that's a lossy/ambiguous process. That represent_in_text(raster_image) -> "dog" don't contain a meaningful amount of the original data. The idea of LLM aided CAD sounds to me like, a sufficiently long hash should contain data it represents. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Some SOHO branch office routers like Cisco ISR models can take cellular dongles and/or SIM. Drivers for supported models are baked into ROM and everything works through CLI.
man I have this vague memory that I was at a neighbour's house and we were all kids and internet wasn't that widespread (I was really young) and I remember that they had this dongle in which they inserted an sim card in for network access. This is why this idea has always persisted in my head in the first place.
I don't know what's the name of dongle though, it was similar to those sd card to usb thing ykwim, I'd appreciate it if someone could help find this too if possible
but also yeah your point is also fascinating as well, y'know another benefit of doing this is that atleast in my area, 5g (500-700mbps) is really cheap (10-15$) with unlimited bandwidth per month and on the ethernet side of things I get 10x less bandwidth (40-80mbps) so much so that me and my brother genuinely thought of this idea
except that we thought that instead of buying a router like this, we use an old phone device and insert sim in it and access router through that way.
What's truly "sad" is that it's ok if Google does it. It's apparently not ok when OpenAI, Musk, etc do literally the same thing.
This whole controversy reminds me of that Rhodesian designed shotgun marketed as "Street Sweeper" in the US. Making a tool is one thing. Brandishing its unsafe working end to potential customers in an attempt to impress them, alas, could lead to interesting situations...
Making a thing made, shipped and delivered at 60 euros each on credit cards is HARD. 600 is easier. 60m consider it done. I wouldn't want to even make and sell, idk, a lens cap for a camera, at that price, without first owning couple factories running at healthy levels of utilization. Maaaaybe if my customers would be happy with a 3D printed artisanal version of it. But even then it'll technically be delivered at a slight loss.
I think the point is it's not zero shot if a sample is needed. A system that require one sample is usually considered one-shot, or few-shot if it needs few, etc etc.
