Trump considering taking over Strait of Hormuz (cbsnews.com)

We could see that Iran is all-in at this point. IF this gets to happen, it won't be free or without hard consequences, I believe. There's so much to lose for everybody in this war. The bully Trump should take another approach, or none at all, and retire while possible.

USA is also kind of "all-in" at this point.

People say that Trump should TACO but at this point it's basically lighting the Gulf States' relationship with the US on fire. At a minimum, they will have to massively hike their own defense expenditures and likely reorient money earmarked for investments in the US to do that.

Yeah, right. The emperor has no clothes. Trump’s made the U.S. the laughingstock of the world. And CBS has now gone full Larry Ellizionist nazi.

Why do you think the US couldn't take over the Strait of Hormuz (or any other territory not currently held by a nuclear military)?

I imagine that if they can't even stop the hail of missiles on tanker ships, they certainly can't take over the strait.

I mean, er, see Iraq, Afghanistan (multiple times), Ukraine, etc etc. Invading places tends to, in practice, be rather difficult.

what does that even mean? does it mean iran will stop shooting at ships passing thru the area? because usa has taken it over?

Looking at map it seems very tall ask. You need to hold on to few hundred kilometres of coast. In hostile country which will do best to thwart your effort. And anything in the strait and around it... Might as well go for regime change at that point...

It means nothing because it's the ramblings of an old man who talks a whole lot of shit he can't deliver on.

Given that China is shipping missile components and fuel ingredients to Iran via the strait, and since Iran is threatening global shipping traffic there, taking it over makes sense. Even if the optics of the wider war are bad.
