Auto-Correction and Predictive Text are 2 separate toggles in the keyboard settings. I have Auto-Correction enabled, and Predictive Text disabled. I can switch it around the other way too.

Maybe whoever told me that was wrong, or that was an older version that could not switch them separately, or I was confused and it is different for Android vs iPhone, etc.
