I've always found it weird when people get bent out of shape about slang, shortened words or phrases, that sort of thing.
Language is whatever we agree it is. If the other person understands what you said, congratulations, you languaged. Just because something wasn't, doesn't mean it will never be. It is not set in stone, there is no hard definitive rule about what counts and what doesn't.
Language is fluid and flexible and always changing.
Of course in a technical or safety-critical environment it's different than a casual setting.
