Ah I think I misunderstand the video, I thought it was returning automatically. But then the stick indicates the current gear, what is the point of a second screen? Convenience?

I guess just so you can see it more easily on the dashboard, though I've always used my hand to check (that way I don't need to take my eyes off the road).
