Make some benchmarks and tests that track the things you care about. Speed, resources, etc are easy to test for. Simplicity: how do you evaluate if complexity is unnecessary? If you think of a better solution, suggest that. Maybe do design reviews to figure out the simplest solution before they implement it. Brittleness: use modules.
