Ask HN: What are the best alternatives to GitHub Copilot?

I'm using VSCode to do dev programming, and GitHub Copilot helps a lot in my programming process, save me a lot of time from some tedious stuff.

But Copilot recently start their subscription business model. I live in a third world country which has low purchasing power, so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative with similar functionality, any thoughts?

GitHub copilot is free for open source contributors. Maybe start contributing to projects you like / use everyday?

Check out Tabnine - they seek to achieve the same thing as Copilot, and they have been around for longer.

Codeium was just mentioned a few days ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33885676

ChatGPT is free for now, it's relatively decent at basic code.

I know replit has something similar built in, and they’re even making it at least somewhat usable on a smartphone
