> Despite restrictions on its business within the country, the company struck a deal, reportedly valued at $10 million, with Amazon for 1,500 thermal cameras

This is just depressing. I just sat through an Amazon virtual career fair presentation where they talked about leadership, agility, and serving customers. In any other context I would apply to Amazon as a student, those values are nice and they have really interesting technical challenges. However, I do not understand why they would willingly do business with a company building infrastructure to perpetuate crimes against humanity. I'm sure there's ways to make money without getting mixed into this shit. I don't want to be complicit, so I guess I'll keep searching.

Black Box Algorithms making its way into social systems with Mass Surveillance where authoritarian Regimes use it to oppress people (minorities) without anyone saving then is definitely one of the biggest concerns of the next few years.

It’s bad when China does it to Uighurs. But this same technology can save us from Trumpers. It was interesting to see how gleefully facial recognition tech was cheered when the Capitol riot happened. The secret is to properly label the dissident groups as terrorists.
