Ask HN: Are progressive applications production-ready? New app at angular.io
3 points by vfc1 on June 13, 2017 | hide | past | favorite
Today the Angular team released a progressive web application which is really fast, the fastest I've seen - https://angular.io/tutorial

But there is one interesting thing:

if you reload the application and inspect the network tab, it's essentially an empty page, the content is being loaded via Javascript only.

So the application is not being server-side rendered, it's all just javascript.

Does this mean that we can start using this on the public internet without worrying about SEO?

Or will the Angular docs now show up on the last page of Google :-) ?

Also, there is no timeline for Safari/ iOs to support PWAs, but trying the app out on an iPhone it's still super fast.

Does this mean we start using this in production?

I heard reports of Google not being able to fully index Javascript pages, but here is a Google team deploying their documentation using it.

Any insight on the viability of PWAs in production would be great, thanks
