They've had great customer service in the past and have solved a number of domain name issues for me.

Namecheap has whois lookup: http://namecheap.getwhois.net/

You can always use the command line whois client, which is provider agnostic.

I don't know how much to trust them but I use http://who.is because it's memorable.
