instead of using ~/bin I use ~/installed/bin, sometimes I need build a command from source then install it, which might have share/ man/ etc so I can avoid installing them under the home dir.

~/.local/ could work for this, and as another user mentioned easier to separate the back up.

i like the opus 4.6 announcement a lot more, concise and to the point. for the 5.3 codex, it's a long post, but still, the most important info, the context window, is nowhere to be found. thus, I'm keeping using opus.

first time hear this, any more specifics? i used android to develop video conference software and don't recall camera limits

I'm only familiar with this as a user and not a developer, but I've had multiple Android phone where not all camera features available in the Camera app were available to other apps via the APIs:

* not all cameras being available

* stabilisation not working

* 60 FPS unavailable

sdl is still alive and kicking, doesn't seem looking ground to new replacements?

Surprised because I learned today UT Austin had so many applications(100K) that they can only issue 25% admissions and had to put off the rest 75% for one extra month. It made me feel college is still "crowded" to me.

"Good" universities (ie. public and private programs with either regional or national prestige) remain in demand. The issue is there are hundreds of no-name private and public programs that are becoming strapped of students.

It's hard to make a case to attend Western Illinois University or St Mary's College versus going to community college and transferring to your state flagship (eg. Grangier Guarantee [0] and TAG [1] respectively) or an Ivy or Ivy Tier (eg. NYU's CCTOP [2])

This is what TFA talks about as well.

I expect another K shaped graph here where the top 20 universities or so located in the top 10 or 20 metros compete for the top 10% of the population while the rest are on the downward leg of the K.

wondering how it is different from the 'bible' "The Linux Programming Interface" book

Of all the books I wish would get updated, this is the main one...

Linux is my main and sole desktop since around-2006. I needed windows for TurboTax a few hours a year in the past but that's it, I did not do PC games though, just regular desktop stuff including developing code.

Same here, since 1997 though, running the tax software in a virtual machine with Linux as host.

it went far beyond those 'research paper because I have a good dad' or 'I had a few startups and some even got acquired thanks to my dad's friend'. The math competitions hosted by MAA, the CS Olympiads called usaco,etc are all full of cheating these days for a better college application. People will do whatever it takes to cut in line now.

How are the Olympiads full of cheating? I only participated in one but there wasn’t any room for cheating.

They're not. For some odd reason, the comments on this post are full of bitter people who cannot possibly fathom that brilliant young people not only exist, but also achieve amazing things on their own merits.

> They're not.

Evidence for this claim?

> For some odd reason, the comments on this post are full of bitter people who cannot possibly fathom that brilliant young people not only exist, but also achieve amazing things on their own merits.

As opposed to you, who's up and down the thread making unsubstantiated claims and engaging in emotional manipulation to try to discredit (without evidence, I might add) the idea that there's any cheating or subversion going on whatsoever.

The people you're responding to are making far better points than you are.

just google for 'maa math cheating', 'usaco cheating',etc. there are official statements somewhere that you can probably dig out too. people were selling the answers before the test for $5 on discord. my kids are taking these exams, and it saddens/discourages them so much as their classmates are bragging about those $5 answers and got super high scores. it's a public scandal, just that the media paid no attentions, so far.

dumb question,how to use it? claude is a cli tool,not an editor,why is lsp relevant?

I have 5 kindles at home and they're all collecting dusts along with some Alexa and Echo devices, the only thing I need Amazon for is its ecommerce shopping site. The phone just replaces all those gadgets and it probably has nothing to do with Amazon. Still it's a nice move to support ePub and PDFs on kindles.
