The Python stack is a huge wart. First performance is shit. Second type checking is shit.
The only benefit is familiarity and data science. That’s literally it. No one in this thread has stated any benefit Python brings to the table on top of other popular web application languages.
I don't see how it's a bad choice on its own merit. Lang choice will always be a mixture of familiarity (team or individual) and niche problem needs (some edge cases need specific tools).
I personally avoid to touch anything that is nodejs related because I do not trust its ecosystem (npms).
having built two enterprise data platforms in python, I can't disagree more. for a startup, development velocity matters more than code performance especially for a CRUD app even at medium scale. Frameworks like Django simply enable you to do so much and so quickly. and you can reach world scale, that's what Instagram did!
Having built more than two enterprise apps in Python and many others in many other languages I can say it is certainly possible to build it in Python. But it is one of the worst choices out of all possible languages out of all the other mainstream languages.
Django is fast but has become much less relevant in the age of AI. The issue with Django is you hit issues very early. Within 2 to 3 years of using Django the warts of using Django become apparent. Django is mostly a good tool for the first year, but if the tool survives beyond that, Django becomes more of a liability.
You get 80 percent of the convenience of Django with just popular nodejs libs like prisma, zod and express. Once you add in LLS it’s 100 percent.
No AI companies were able to make profit so far, and unemployed masses surely won't buy expensive ChatGPT subscriptions.
Will AI labs make profit from AI using companies? Hardly, unemployed masses can't and won't buy their products either, therefore they won't be able to afford even more expensive ChatGPT Enterprise subscriptions. (For crying out loud, even big corps like Uber can't pay all their AI bills.)
And if AI labs have no profits, how are they supposed to pay the hyperscalers for computing capacity? They will run out of investor money pretty soon.
And if hyperscalers can't rent out their data centers to AI labs, how are they supposed to pay for the electricity (gas/diesel/etc.) and water bills and repay their already enormous debts?
I honestly don't see how replacing all workers with AI could be profitable at all.
A few are deciding to take a massive, extremely risky bet on behalf of the entire world population. And of course they are the ones insulated from any potential disaster
Meta is planning to use their own AI to replace their workers. They are spending hundreds of billions of datacenters. If they cut 30,000 workers thats around 15 billion a year in savings. Once their own workers are replaced they plan to sell their AI agents to small businesses for use on their platforms.
They have those payouts for check marks? A lot of people post click bait for views to bring in small amounts of money, usually from a poorer country I think
Verified profiles get money based on engagement rate of their posts, only from other verified profiles; I don't think I need to tell you the quality of said posts, AI slop included.
They are literally getting money (not making) without producing anything and that aligns with Elon's world view of a jobless civilization driven by AI and robots.
