After a concert in London, I missed the last train back to Lancaster. So I made a sign saying that I was on CouchSurfing, and some strangers invited me over!

After CouchSurfing started charging a monthly fee, I’ve defected to BeWelcome.org which is a European, open-source alternative to CS.

Was that the Archive.org HTML files, or did you find a source of PureVolume MP3 files?

Either way I'm interested; I did some independent research into the MySpace Dragon Hoard for non-English music, and discovered bands through there that I've since supported on Bandcamp and iTunes.

I went through a bunch of HTML pages, but most didn’t have much worth keeping. The main .warc I pulled had a ton of profiles and other data, though it looks like most of the site didn’t get scraped in time. I managed to extract 63,993 songs from the various .warc files. If you’ve got a way to reach you (Twitter or email works), I can share the torrent and instructions on how to rebuild and sift through everything.

Sure, just click my profile name and you'll have my personal website with email address.

If you're interested in other PCB edge connectors, here's an HDMI one I designed:

If you're interested in learning languages by reading blocks of text with a word-by-word translator, I've built Pingtype to help with that:

If anybody is interested in beta app testing, I’m happy to invite you to the BeWelcome.org iOS app!

Currently it’s just a PWA, but we’re trying to keep it simple so it can get onto the App Store.

I was a big fan of CouchSurfing before they started charging a monthly fee, which is a similar gripe I have with Servas. I met my girlfriend at the CS meet up in Kaohsiung, and although I’m no longer able to help, BeWelcome has several ways to volunteer.

The solution for code signing is coming: through jailbreaks or appdb.to, it's possible to sideload apps without the official app store process. The EU even mandated that there should be other app stores.

Building for older models is possible using a collection of virtual machines, or even a multi-boot old laptop.

a) You still need to code sign on alternative app stores.

b) All of your users are still going come through the Apple one.

Reg B... Will they? From what almost everyone I have heard from says, most of their users come thru their own marketing efforts, not Apples.

Does it work in Chinese? See the movies feature of http://pingtype.github.io

Yes, it does have Chinese. I didn't quite understand the website though. What exactly were you trying to show?

You could say it is similar. It picks phrases from the video, translates it and creates anki flashcards.

It’s back!

“Got it. The number you would dial to reach our Account Security team would be 1-866-961-9253 (US). Thanks, Peter! -Saul”

Looks great! Is there an FPGA board with HDMI in and out? I’d like to build an HDMI freeze button to transmit a single frame at the push of a button. (e.g. during a meeting or church when noticing mistakes on the PPT slides).

If you want something that's made for professional use, look at the BlackMagic ATEM series. I think that should have you covered.

Thanks, but I’d prefer open-source rather than professional.

Have you conaidered a £10 HDMI capture card? Not open source, or much of a project, but it would Just Work.

I've got an Elgato Camlink, but need the freeze button (e.g. CamLink input to a Raspberry Pi full-screen, feeding through to HDMI output, with a GPIO button to pause the live stream).

Tethered or untethered? The article didn’t say.

tachy0n is an LPE, so that's not really a relevant classification. The jailbreak it was deployed as part of, unc0ver, is "semi-untethered" afaik.

Cool, thanks for answering! unc0ver is this one, btw: https://unc0ver.dev/
