Installed Doom3 using the CDs and updated to the latest release. Then opened the sln file in VS 2010 and changed the command line args for debugging to point to the data of the game installed from the cd (instead of steam).

Now what is the matter with default.cfg and what about "Unknown command 'vid_restart'"? I am not familiar with the structure of idgames.

  ------ Initializing File System ------
  Current search path:
  C:\Program Files (x86)\DOOM 3\base/base
game DLL: 0x0 in pak: 0x0
  Addon pk4s:
  file system initialized.
  --------------------------------------
  Unknown command 'vid_restart'
  idRenderSystem::Shutdown()
  Shutting down OpenGL subsystem
  ...shutting down QGL
  Couldn't load default.cfg

ah.. it works w/o the base at the end! So the correct path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOOM 3"

I got a similar error on linux. How did you get it to work?

But I somehow agree with the non-joker argument. Ever heard somebody who doesn't write code, arguing about how great open source software like Ubuntu is?

"Stop being a fucking joker." It is quite funny how people come up with the subjects they have the most problems with. For example we had a professor also teaching project management who had a hard time keeping his meetings, work, teaching, etc organized ;)

Wtf Rage is amazing and I've never seen a game that looks better. I would say that getting Rage done is quite an achievement. If hoped that JC would do a different game then you can doit yourself.

Probably he is talking about Rage on PC. Rage on PC looks alright, but not the best looks ever. Quite often it looks like it is 2000 outside (the textures are meh, they are not crisp at all).

I strongly disagree with "Learn a parser toolkit". If you want to do it yourself you should write also a parser yourself.

"Converting CFGs to assembly language" Nice we didn't cover how to actually implement it in our theoretical computer science class.

Nice post, however it's a bit dated I wonder if there is a newer version.

The Art of Assembly is, itself, an immensely useful and dated piece of work. I remember flipping through this years ago. Certainly worth the read, though it's likely not worth pouring one's self into too far, as it isn't so easily applicable these days.

...unless maybe you want to write highly-optimized code for special applications, or maybe to write compiler code generators. Assembly language knowledge is still useful otherwise to understand what the machine really does.

Someone has to write the systems code you depend on.

Old! C programmers know how this is expanded.

Guess we will know more once the sdk is released.
