> Is it effective practice to shoot targets that don't camouflage, don't maneuver, don't evade, don't shoot back?

You mean, like balloons?

Thank you for your perspective, I agree on both counts. Sorry youre getting downvoted, but this is HN after all.

I would love to understand what they mean when they say "looks hollow". How can you tell what's inside by looking at the outside, short of the thing being transparent?

Also, the material supposedly looks like plastic.

What material? The paint? Does the author think a car with a matte coating is made of rubber rather than metal?

Someone responded that Google is terrified of being left being Microsoft. I think that's hilarious because it highlights the thing google should actually be terrified of - the fact that it has lost the capacity to innovate (same applies to MS, FB, etc).

Multivac.

This is a company that has consistently lied about everything it can. I'm thinking things like ads views, engagement etc. Basically things that no one outside the company can disprove.

Now, the article says that the stock jumped on lower projected costs. Hmm I wonder if this company will lie about projected costs, which is something no one outside the company can disprove.

So yeah, I did read the article, and I agree the fundamentals didn't change much.

> The combined actions of the US and Russia

Excuse me. The are the actions of Russia, not the USA. The USA, and other Western nations, are providing support to a country that wants to defend itself from an aggressor.

In 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, the UK and France did nothing to help. Let's not make the same mistake again.

No there is some truth in this statement. Since 1990 the US has started between 3 and 6 (depending how you count) illegal foreign interventions while talking a big game about a "rules based international order". Understandable how russians who are deeply cynical anyway would see through those slogans and realize that might still makes right.

Now I'm not defending anything Russia is doing, but if this was a US invasion all energy and communications infrastructure would have been destroyed by air strikes and missiles before the 24th of february.

Russia is a lot worse of course, where war crimes are a matter of course and not singular occurrences but I just wanted to give some perspective to the people with no memories. I'd still rather be in the siege of Fallujah than the second siege of Grozny.

No, there is NO truth to the statement. The fact that the USA also does other bad things had no bearing on who's at fault in this war starting or continuing.

The war started because Russia started it and continues because Russia continues it. Russia could stop it tomorrow if they wanted it. Ukraine doesnt have that option.

Speaking of which, what's the move like? Can a company sponsor a green card if they like the candidate enough? How does this work?

Yes, I'm one of those people you're talking about.

AFAIK you need a visa first, most people I know that did this (myself included) first had a visa first: H1, L1, O1, etc. Then their employer sponsored a green card.

H1-B is the most common for tech workers, unfortunately due to quotas it can be pretty hard to get. Even if you get the job, your petition could be denied randomly because there were too many applications for the year.

I already have L1, but my employer won't sponsor green card. What are my options?

IIRC L1 is not transferrable, so your best bet would be to try to snag an H1B at a different employer. It's much easier to do while in the US, so I'd ride out the L1 and apply for jobs between Nov and February to get in the H1B paperwork in for April 1st and hopefully get in the lottery. If it doesn't work on year, rinse and repeat. Depending on your occupation, O1 is a possibility, one of my friends switched jobs and went from L1 to O1.

The alternative if you're not married is to get your GC through your marriage if you have a US partner.

New employer using a different non-immigrant visa or EB-1.

Yes, if you work on an H-1 your company can sponsor you for a GC. Many do.

afaik the best approach seems to be to join a US-based company in the UK then ask them nicely to apply for a visa for you after a year. Then you're in the H1-B lottery.

Damn it you were a fraction of a second faster.
