The only way to truly fix these cycles is to finally let the bubble actually pop. Make laws against government bailouts. Let companies and investors who acted recklessly go broke. Send criminals to jail. That’s the only way to restore sanity to the system - if it’s actually their own money they are gambling with they’ll start doing due diligence and stop gambling.

I've had this same thought for some time. There should have been an explosion in startups, new product from established companies, new apps by the dozen every day. If LLMs can now reliably turn an idea into an application, where are they?

There is a deluge, every day. Just nobody notices or uses them.

Still figuring out if they’re adding value to 200 customers or not.

Spot on. Ten or fifteen years ago, participating in the internet was something I got excited about, now I just get excited about getting away from it.

This 1000%. When my wife was a teacher she would often comment on what a huge distraction chromebooks and tablets were. Most of the things being learned through high school do not require a computer and do not benefit from them. Added to that, having kids spend 40 hours a week away from screens is a huge bonus.

This is not an ad, just personal experience, but I went through two pairs of AirPod Pro 2s in the last couple of years and both developed problems outside of warranty. I bought a pair of Earfuns from Amazon and they’re honestly pretty great. 95% of the sound quality and functionality of AirPod pros for about 25% of the price.

Thanks for the report! This iteration of earphones will be the Honda civic of ears phones, not the BMW.

>and functionality of AirPod pros

Is the automatic connection and switching between devices equivalent?

Yes actually. That was one of my biggest annoyances with non-Apple earbuds in the past, but these actually do seamlessly connect to all my Apple devices and switch quickly and reliably to the active device.

Thanks and same, the ones I'd tried previously were very annoying to get and stay connected when I wanted them to and not when I didn't want them to.

I actually ordered the airpod pro 3s the day before seeing this thread. If they don't blow me away I'll be returning them and getting these.

Although I don't know how I'm going to test the flight problem. I don't have any coming up in the next couple weeks. Might have to return even if they do blow me away :/

So this is a tactic? My iphone and macbook recently just started acting up with bt connections to my Bose QC45. Used all of these for about 3 years with no problems, two weeks or so ago, i need to re-pair the headphones every time i want to use them (they connect fine but the audio gets send to… /dev/null?). Not upgraded anything in the past Months. Weird

Which model did you get btw?

EarFun Air Pro 4

Are you serious? The obvious benefit is they get to lay a bunch of people off and pretend it’s because they’re forward thinking innovators instead of poor managers that are having difficulty growing their business. There’s a huge incentive to present this fiction to stockholders, which is the only opinion they care about.

"But it will get better, a lot better."

I see statements like this a lot when talking about AI in general. People seem to think it is a foregone conclusion that no limit to LLM model improvement and capability exists. What causes you to believe this and what evidence do you have to back it up?

Because compared to a year ago, it's much better. Compared to two years ago, it almost didn't exist. Compared to three years ago, nobody was actually talking about it.

Like I get the jokes, and I totally agree that they won’t totally replace the humans. But come on, the way an average coder writes anything nowadays has dramatically changed. Especially for web and app stuff. I’ve onboarded some junior/mid-level engineers recently, and it’s such a different experience compared to 5 years ago.

Yes, five years ago they were likely using different frameworks and tools. What does that have to do with improvements, either in AI or otherwise?

Really? Opinion, based on the fact that there are basic improvements that can be implemented on what we have now, using the skills that we have now. If you don't agree, that's ok.

Now, about your comprehension skills, where is there any mention on my part of there being 'no limit'? In fact I go as far as to speculate on at least one.

Serif makes a very capable alternative also called Publisher. I really like their software - you can buy it without a subscription and it's very polished.

https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/publisher

Wow. Never heard of them.

Corel refugee here refusing to buy another upgrade license.

I have been using open and free code to do all I can.

Don't mind paying for great apps, and these guys offering almost all the operating systems I value in their universal license and at only $170?

Sweet deal, I may buy in.

That said, I find this software collection worth a donation:

Portable Apps is great. You can load the install / menu tool. Pick all you want to load go!

It is possible to load a serious setup quicker than you are used to.

Very highly recommended.

Unfortunately, they were acquired by Canva last year, so I feel like it's only a matter of time before things go downhill.

Their software, as of right now, is still pretty great!

It’s been a year, it’s still great. I already wasn’t sure they would survive before the acquisition, so the move doesn’t make that much of a difference in terms of stability.

Is Canva bad? I know a lot of non technical and non design people that use it and are really happy with it.

Never heard of this company but the website makes these products look very mature. How does it compare to Adobe?

It would be great to see someone like this make an alternative to Office as well. I’d be glad to pay. I know some open source options exist but they always feel behind the times to me compared to Office.

I use their products daily both professionally and personally, mostly Designer and Publisher. Coming from someone who also used to use Adobe products, the affinity suite meets my needs almost perfectly. There are some times when I sorely miss a feature, like bitmap tracing and proper vector brushes in Designer and variable spread sizes in Publisher. That said, if you're going to pay for software, they're 100% worth the price.

For tracing I use inkscape, it’s pretty good at that.

Affinity’s stuff is freaking fantastic. I’m not a professional graphic designer but I spend enough time in such apps to want to have nice ones. Adobe’s apps are insanely expensive for occasional use. Affinity is very affordable, with the main complaint I’ve heard being that they aren’t identical clones of Creative Suite.

I have used Affinity photo and it is a really powerful alternative to photoshop. Have not used any other products but have been very impressed with Affinity photo.

I massively prefer it to Adobe. Granted I’m not a professional designer, but as an amateur affinity is much more affordable, but also much easier to work with.

> the website makes these products look very mature.

I remember using their software over 20 years ago, so it should be

This is really impressive - nice work. I too use Ruby at work, and would love to build something like this.

The numbers are FAKE. How else can you describe a 30% downward revision in jobs numbers this year?
