I have a bug in my Honor (200 pro) phone were after some time, whatsapp's notifications with no sounds are changed by the SO automatically to Gentle Notification (no popup, only number on icon) I want to have a popup, but without sound.
I might have reported several times, well, they have not done anything about it.
I also reported something to Lutris just to be told, not our problem wont fix. which is the same feeling of, why have I bother doing this.
And after a few of those, if you have a bug, you moved on. In this case I regret going with Honor instead of Samsung, and it would be likely the last Honor phone I got and I do not recommend to anybody. And with Lutris, I would rather use windows and be able to see my screen instead of a black box when logging into epic.
If you don't fix the bug, the user will stop reporting, and will find a workaround.
There is a reason why I have 0 problems using linux on a raspberry PI, yet everytime I try to install in a real computer I got lying around I got a myriad of nosense problems which are particularly hard to solve.
If we want a new OS we need to make it for certain platform which is always identical in terms of hardware. I would say a PS3, Steam Deck, or Nintendo Switch would be good candidates.
They have plenty of identical hardware units in the market, and you could focus on the OS rather than supporting strange hardware issues.
Drivers are precisely the reason we only have Windows, Macos and Linux as viable options.
Hardware manufacturers write Windows drivers, Linux community write drivers for basically all consumer hardware, and apple develops both the hardware and the OS with their own drivers.
>Drivers are precisely the reason we only have Windows, Macos and Linux as viable options
That is one big issue and another one is software.
Writing drivers and porting software means both time and money.
How ever if a new OS would bring lots of benefits to both users and companies, it might tip the scale and make the time and money investment worthwhile.
Of course, by a new OS I don't mean just another platform that ebables us to run software and use hardware, as existing OSes do that just fine.
By a new operating system, I mean one that enables us to use new computing paradigm, enable new types of software to software and software to hardware interactions and would make a big disruption to the market. Something with the same kind of impact as AI or the introduction of smartphones.
Can someone, self representing, and with the very intention to lose, keep going this battle? I don't know, there are 70tb of books, could someone who had published under their name carry on independently?
Anybody can sue anybody, and this someone in your example would likely have standing, so why not?
A single person self representing against a company that is essentially one of the largest law firms on the planet, and can outspend them tens of thousands times over - what's to be gained?
Ouch! So much for the sustainability of all the work we pour into this ecosystem. I don't get why freedom to operate is so low on corporate priorities.
So they use the target selector which becomes active when #pageid is in the url.
But the html for all the pages is outputted, so this won't scale with a big blog.
I wonder how SEO is for this, and if there's a way to make this better with something like the <object> element.
I would also make it so the url was example.com/#/pageid, so the id is "/pageid". Looks a bit better I think.
I was thinking in using it for a blog, but I am afraid of having everything in a single file, and that making some mistake will render the whole site useless.
Also not sure how hard would be to manage once it starts to grow... Maybe it needs to grow significantly more than I can before this is a road block.
I think that would become unwieldy very fast. I think it's alright for a lightweight site like this one with very little content.
If you don't want to use a static site generator I think you're better off with just html files for each page/blog entry, or you could use something like htmx and load stuff in that way.
Pro-tips: switch styles to show all content (and buttons) then use contenteditable - for the whole page or allow it at element levels, allow copying/removing specific element ("template"), POST new version, HTTP Authenticated, to the server or just save :)
Same. This would work really well for my site, I think, although I worry slightly about latency as it scales and I add more and more photos. That is not so much a problem right now, but it might impose some latency later.
I am going to say something that I haven't found anywhere but it has been my experience with every single battery replacement I ir somewhat close had.
The new battery, even if it's Samsung original, it isn't as good as new, it is better than the old one, but not anywhere close as first day phone.
Why? No idea. I imagine that although the battery is new it was built circa when the model was in production and somehow that has affected its capacity.
So you get a phone, you pay 60/80 euros, and you get maybe, two hours more of battery when a new phone would give you 6 or 7.
Pixelfed is already what you are looking for. You could contribute yourself, fork it, or just use it in your server.
What I don't see often, and I think it was a neat idea is a copy of Path. A social network for a very very small set of people to share their things. I think path was like 2 members.
I imagine that just a whatsapp/telegram conversation chat is more than enough for this case tho.
