I did this on one of my APs that fails frequently (locks up and the front lights go off, signal strength randomly goes down to about 8 feet with no obstructions, etc) and it helped immensely. unfortunately, it didn't /solve/ the problem for me, just made it better. I've ordered some unifi stuff on recommendation from friends. hopefully that'll live up to the hype and do the job.
That level of transparency, yes. However, my terminal emulator is set to 35% opacity, and I like it and can use it just fine; I use it frequently, too, multiple times per day.
I somehow managed to disable all of them before that change happened. I receive no Facebook notifications anymore, and happily look at Facebook ~once every 3 months.
I bought a first gen apple product with this in mind (new macbook), and it's been surprisingly good. My usb adapter sucks, yes, so that's a pain, but since it's not my primary computer it doesn't matter so much. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as their primary computer. That being said, when the next one comes out I'm ditching this one and getting the new one; first-gen apple products are really mostly proof-of-concept it seems. (iPad 1 vs iPad 2, for example)
This pretty much describes my experiences so far. I've gotten better at not thinking about it, but sometimes when I'm extremely tired I think about those exact things you do, with the addition of wether or not my consciousness exists elsewhere in addition to myself, or anywhere at all. I eventually just decided it wasn't worth thinking about (which was hard!) and try to avoid it as much as possible. What happens, happens.
Also, we are making great advancement in medical areas to keep us functional and able into old age, which I think is encouraging. I don't want to die, but I don't want to live forever either, so I think I'll try to make as much of an impact as I can while I'm still here.
Edit: When I was younger, I wondered if my parents were actually different people every day. That was weird.
I use the TotalTerminal addon for the stock terminal for a slide-out-from-the-side terminal that I can leave up and not have get in the way. It's really handy.
