Just tried ordering and it would only accept Canadian addresses. Went to the US version of the site and the laptop is $789. Got me excited there for a minute!

As far as networks go Verizon has the best. Unfortunately they believe that gives them the right to treat customers like crap and do whatever they want in the pursuit of profit.

Looks great. I am building an image intensive app currently and will definitely be putting this to use. Thanks for sharing!

Let me know how it goes. We don't specifically monitor the loading state of images right now, (although the document readyState will be effected by images). If it doesn't seem to work right for you create an issue and we'll add image monitoring.

Very interesting. As with anything like this it would take time for adoption of the new hardware. Also for smaller local businesses to implement it they would need their own app, and their customers would have to care enough about their specific store to install the app. Larger chains would benefit more from this possibly. However most of the people shopping at the larger chains would most likely be running Android, and probably a version prior to 4.3.

There are quite a few barriers to this becoming a big deal, but I am curious where it will go, and if it can be used for things besides welcome messages when you enter a store.

As was mentioned it is simply a courtesy that you extend to your employer so that they may have sufficient time to find a replacement for your position, or at least get the process started and in the mean time make arrangements for your duties to be handled.

And some (paranoid?, hostile?) companies will escort you out the door the moment you offer two weeks (or whatever) notice.

Oh, make sure you've gathered all your personal belongings beforehand or make them easy to grab as you are being led out the door.

A company I know of just went to unassigned cubes. Cubes are first come first serve each day, and as a result of that you can't store things overnight in the cube. Besides real estate savings for the company, I suppose it makes the firing process quicker.

that was the nature of tech company i guess. I have seen situation where the manager will bring the employee to a room and said the company not doing well etc, telling you that you are fire and by the time you are back in your cube, you cant even login to your system anymore.

I don't believe this guy. His original filing was ridiculous, and now he thinks he is a victim? He talks about all the books he has written and how smart he is, and yet all the evidence I see in this whole situation doesn't really speak to that intelligence.

I am glad he has finally dropped everything. Some charities even got some funds from the situation so I guess it wasn't all bad.

The whole situation would have been completely different if people waited for some context and explanation. Unfortunately pre-judging people based on quick first impressions is something pretty much everyone does. Some are just more vocal about it.

I quit browsing Reddit because of the comment sections.

I personally just use Gmail's web interface when on my computer and the Gmail apps when on my phone or tablet. Even when I worked for an enterprise facing company where everyone used Outlook (and had for years) I used the Gmail web interface/apps since the company used Google Apps.

I've just always felt that a desktop client just adds another layer where things can go wrong.

It seems like someone who makes decisions for DivX got a bit greedy. I am curious why Bing though? It seems to me like all the shady "Install this too?" dialogs are for Bing toolbars and such.

Google [1] and Ask [2] isn't better either, they are offered with most updates of Adobe Flash and Java. Guess everyone will sneak something in if given the opportunity.

Google Chrome is the browser I am using right now, and I used to use the Google Toolbar (only stopped when browsers introduced built-in search boxes).

Sorry I am not following you. Are you trying to say its okay to bundle/install 3rd party products that are considered good/acceptable? If so keep in mind humans have different tastes, what maybe considered good by you or me may not be by others. It is considered unethical to bundle programs since the days of Bonzi Buddy.

I think Bing is more willing to spend money to get traffic. You can easily get $5 a month in Amazon credit from their rewards program just by using Bing. They have a few other interesting promotions, such as starbucks cards and XBox Live Gold membership. But I'm sure this is costing them a decent amount of money.

Why Bing? Because Microsoft is desperate enough for market share to buy traffic through affiliate marketing.

I guess you never had random apps offer to install Google Chrome and make it default browser (which I consider being spyware wrt non-tech-literate users).

My opinion is that this will only hurt those devs who would rather push ads to people in shady ways than pull people into their app with a design and functionality worth opening more than once. If I ever happen upon an app that does either of the things Google is killing off I immediately get rid of it anyway. I don't see how this is a negative thing at all.
